Post Birthday… er… Post

March 30, 2006

Thanks or the emails and comments people. I really do appreciate them… it’s nice to know I am not forgotten.

So, the day of my birth. I get up a 5:55am. Realize I should be one stop away from work on my train at this time. Panic. Wake up Jo to ask for the car. Drive to work… slowly. Stupid highway traffic. Get to work at 7:00am. Only had one subject waiting, and he had just arrived. Act flustered for the next few hours. Some of my subjects (that is testing subjects, I have yet to acquire some sort of royalty standing in Australia… but it’s coming!) surprise me and make me breakfast. The picture is what they made. Nice huh?Birthday 2006
Drive home. Crash for 2 hours. Jo gets home from work and I recieve presents. We watch some of the 3rd season of Scrubs. Go for dinner. Good times. Continue my winless streak at Settlers of Catan. Jo improves her record to 3 for 5. Jo insists she is not competetive. Much laughter follows.

The beauty thing about birthday week is that it is still going. Yesterday I received the 2nd Season of Arrested Development. Family birthday dinner on Friday. Another birthday lunch next Tuesday. Kudos to Heather Ann, and others who promote this wonderful tradition.

As for today, I don’t feel well. So I am going to go to bed. I will try and reply to your emails and stuff later tonight. Thanks again. You guys are awesome.

Looking Forward To This

March 25, 2006

I have been gunning for this weekend for a bit. I have been trying to take one day off a month as a “sanity saver” day. The success of this day is yet to be seen.

However, I do have Monday off. Today, was a glorious day of sleeping in. Watching Arrested Development (I am keen to get the 2nd series, but don’t have the bling just yet, so thought I’d rewatch the first series. I had forgotten how freakin funny this show is.), and what’s left of the Commonwealth Games.

Quick question: Does Canada really care about the CGs? Australians do. But they win in most of the events and have a crushing amount of medals compared to the rest of us. My retort has been that no one else cares as much about them, and that the CGs are the ugly sister of the Olympics. Yeah they have personality… well… you know the rest. But thus far I have been kidding… is it true? Do we have extensive coverage of the CGs at home or what? Your thoughts.

Tonight we will play a big game of Settlers of Catan, and introduce it to almost everyone who is coming. When you find a good thing…

Tomorrow, is our semi-finals for Hockey, and then a private game of Texas Hold’em.

Monday will follow with more sleeping in, and then helping out on a video shoot for some easy money.

and now you know.

Floorball

March 18, 2006

When I was in the Ukraine in 1995, and in the Czech in 2002(i think) we played this floor hockey styled game called Innebandy, which I think came from our Swedish friends.

Well, they have introduced it here in Australia too, and in a couple of weeks I will be playing in the Australian Floorball Championships. Yep… that’s right. The Australian Floorball Championships.

I played my first game today [the version we played before used small nets with no keepers... the real version has keepers who play from their knees in a ball hockey sized nets] and popped two in a 3-3 draw… which we should have won. We only had one sub, and the other team had 3 lines. So it wasn’t too bad.

I will be flying to Melbourne for this and the tournament is played over 4 days.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to run well enough… but I am doing ok. And when we have 6-8 extra guys, I should be fine.

How cool is that?

Beaten by The Speed Limit!

March 13, 2006

What a shoddy display of up-to-dated-ness this blog is. Shame, shame, shame.

Last week was just one of those weeks where it felt like I was dragging around a big, fat, dead, horse everywhere. Just felt tired and weary. As it turned out, the horse was just my ass. Easy mistake.

In non-Caleb’s-Ass related news, my sister-in-law got married this weekend. It was… 1. A good time hanging out with the Aussie family.
2. A good excuse to buy a dress shirt (I now have 2).
3. A good time catching up with some friends.
4. A great excuse (not that I need one) to tell my wife how hot she is.
It was a great day, all in all. But a busy one.

Borrowed the World Poker Tour: Season 1 dvd set. Jo is totally into it, and is in for the next game we have. I don’t have to tell you how hot that is do I?

Found a dvd of the old Hercules cartoon we used to watch as kids. Remember it? Dedalus, Willimina, the Mask, Toot, Newton, Helena etc. Yeah. A steal at 3.48$. Who sells things for such prices? Your friendly Target stores thats who. Ah the memories.

Was watching UFC:Revolution (I can’t remember which one right now…) and during one of the interviews in the extras, Matty B. and I are in the background getting some autographs. Pretty funny stuff. Immortalized in a UFC dvd. My mother I should set my goals higher. However, If I had’ve done THAT, I wouldn’t have reached that one, would I? Aim low, and always be an achiever my friends.

That is all for now. I am looking forward to being showered with gifts from Amazon.com in a few weeks. Don’t over-do it now. (wink, wink)

New Addiction

March 6, 2006

I have just been exposed to Settlers of Catan. I am addicted. It is good fun. Plus, Jo is into it… since she won both games we played. When I come home next December, those of you with the habit let us know… we are up for it.

Here are a couple beauty videos I have found for your enjoyment.

- Here is a highlight reel for Tie Domi, on his playing his 1000th game in the NHL. Makes him look like a pro. Check it out.

And here is a video of a live action reproduction of the Simpsons intro. Very well done.

Is Nothing Sacred?

March 1, 2006

So, I have a girl from Germany who is a test subject at work. Wanting to show off my vast awareness of other countries and cultures, I started sharing my knowledge of Rammstein… the only German band I know. Actually, to be specific, we talked about Du Hast. The only Rammstein song I know. She proceeded to inform me that Du Hast wasn’t even their best song, and mentioned some other song that I had never heard of.

I found Du Hast on the iPod and got her to listen to it, so she could tell me what it meant. As far as I can remember, after hearing the song (which I can’t remember if it was Kirk who introduced it to me, or Justin, as he had a roomate at Berkely that listened to them apparently… but I digress…) I was told it meant…

“You
You Hate
You Hate Me”

It doesn’t. Not even close. I have been living a lie. I have been butchering a song in it’s native language thinking I was singing something when I was singing something else… well… that’s debateable since most of the song I would sing it phonetically, and couldn’t have possibly got the exact pronunciation correct. Here are the real lyrics (well, a better version of them… I have found slight variations).

Du hast

Du “You”
Du hast “You have”
Du hast mich “You have me”

Du “You”
Du hast “You have”
Du hast mich “You have me”

Du hast mich “You have me”
Du hast mich gefragt “You have asked me”
Du hast mich gefragt “You have asked me”
Du hast mich gefragt und ich hab nichts gesagt “You have asked me, and I have not said anything”

Willst du bis der tod euch scheidet “Will you until death does sever”
Treu ihr sein fr alle tage… “Be upright to her forever”

Nein “No”

Willst du bis zum tod der scheide “Will you til death be her rider”
Sie lieben auch in schlechten tagen…. “Her lover too, to stay inside her”

Nein “No”
