I just got the pic now. I will tell the story in the morning. Needless to say, we came fourth in our pool, and beat the best teams in the comp to win it all. Beating teams from Queensland, Western Australia, and Victoria to bring it all to New South Wales baby. That’s right. We are the best in Australia!
UPDATE
Basically, after playing everyone in our pool we ended up with a 1-3 record. However, since the top 4 teams in each pool went on to the quarter finals, we moved in. The host team ended up in our pool, and had only been playing for 6 months. Sadly they ended up being the whipping boys of the tourny.
With a crap record like that, compounded with the fact that we were now facing the best team in the other pool, we really didn’t have great hopes of playing on further than Saturday morning. The whole mood changed however after the first period, and we were a different team.
I was intimidated by the skills of some of these guys when we first rocked up. But we played our basic game and worked on 2-3 specific plays and we just shut everyone down.
There is nothing like being the underdog and winning. I was the only “ringer” that played with the Stingrays. I tried to explain that ringers are supposed to be good. The upside is that you always know what you get when you bring in mediocrity.
It was cool being a “role player” too. Not one of the best on the team, so you have to play positionally. You have to play smart. Mostly because that is all you have. I DID want to score a goal in the grand final, and did that. Looking forward to the video of that one.
To top off the weekend, when we ended up back at the airport, after hanging out in the pub for 3 hours before, I discovered that I had booked my e-ticket for 9AM instead of 9PM. They were boarding the plane at the time. Luckily, my bag was small enough to carry on and they put in my business class seat.
Speaking of business class… kinda overrated. For twice the price of coach it is definitely not worth it for short flights. The added leg room is great. Better food. Food as soon as you sit down. A bit of extra pampering. It would be great for a trip home. However, I have learned that to get a business class seat with airmiles you have to book 365 days in advance (they only have 5-6 seats available to the USA that they give to airmiles, and they book em out a year in advance). We are hoping to have enough points after Christmas to go to New Zealand next year.
Now it’s back to the grind… for the next couple of days… then the Easter break… and we are moving into a unit. Jo is looking for new habitation during her school break the next couple of weeks. I hate moving.
