The Cold Unfavoured Gaze Of The Gods

February 28, 2007

I didn’t win the meet and greet with Al. Some guy named Tony won it. I don’t know this Tony person… if that’s his real name… but I am pretty sure he is undeserving. My heart gently weeps.

It’s Been What? A Couple Days?

February 28, 2007

So it has been a while hasn’t it? Ok here’s the dealio:

- I have this nagging post nasal drip thing clogging up my sinuses and thinking space. Subsequently there isn’t a whole lot of thinking going on right now.

- I will see Weird Al live in 12 days. I go to sleep at night planning what I would do if he sees my Team Canada Jersey and pulls up on stage during “Canadian Idiot”. I have decided I will ask to play cowbell for that song. I have been listening to the album daily to prepare myself. My inner geek has emerged.

- I am a budding (you’ll get the pun in a minute) gardener (there it is!). My pumpkin and bean sprouts are growing out of my mini greenhouse and the carrots and peas are coming along. The zucchini is also looking good. So far nothing I have planted as died. I am sure that statistic will change.

- For the last month I have started helping out with a dinner for the homeless in the park thing on Wednesday nights. I have met some interesting people and have been learning a few things. I know very little about this stuff as of yet.

- I have also taken a job as a leader with a after school kids club that meets Tuesday afternoon… after school. The kids are a part of the surrounding neighbourhood which tends to be low-income housing and the women’s refuges. The last few weeks have been good and the kids are great. A bit of a younger crowd than I have been used to, but we have been coping.

- How crazy was the last episode of the Office? I can’t wait for the next one! Will Jim die? Will Pam step in? Is Roy really a psycho? Awesome.

I have really been enjoying this whole 4-day work week thing. I highly recommend it to all. You’d think I’d have more time to post stuff… but to be honest, I just haven’t felt like posting anything. We’ll see how we go for the next few days. Out.

On The Side Of The Angels

February 15, 2007

On The Side Of Angels

John Smith’s story. Pretty wild stuff. From straight laced travelling evangelist to Jesus freak hippie to leader of a biker gang. This guy has some crazy stories and an even crazier passion for justice, and the poor. I have had the privelege of hearing him speak last year and he is not one to mince words.

His awesome journey into the world of biker gangs started while driving by a group that was parked along the side of the road while thinking to himself, “Lord, send someone to reach them!” That someone ended up being himself. I wonder how many times we are the answer to the prayers we send up?

Lights In The Sky

February 12, 2007

Malua Bay

From the balcony of our flatmate’s holiday house this weekend. We had some beautiful weather until Saturday night right after dinner when the biggest thunder and lightning rain storm hit… that is still going… minus the lights.

I have branched out and bought my first backyard cricket set for 10$ and I am thinking about organizing some backyard cricket for my birthday this year. A BBQ tournament of sorts. I also got to dodge some blue bottle jellyfish while playing in the surf this weekend. Today we were back at work and continuing on life as usual.

Weakend

February 6, 2007

Ok, so I didn’t get to watch too much NFL this year… as games are on Monday and Tuesday here in the middle of the morning, so I was looking forward to the Superbowl. I was hanging for Chicago, as they were the underdogs, and I figured it would be a fitting end to a cinderella type season. I also really like Peyton Manning, and knew that after finally killing the demon that was the Patriots this year that stopping them would be a huge task.

Question one: how did the Bears make it this far with Grossman at QB? Did their defense and special teams score all their points? I mean, I had heard that we was sketchy, but that was just a terrible performance. Jitters? I don’t know. Every once in a while it looked like he knew what he was doing… but having thrown an obscene amount of INTs while trailing… there was no looking back by the Colts.

The big winners yesterday were the recipients of my homemade chicken wings. They were melt off the bone good.

Also got to watch the last UFC on Sunday. Not the best card I’ve seen. We got some controversies, some weirdness, and the knew kids on the block. Basically I wanted to set up the next few, because they will be awesome!

On another note… I am rapidly losing ground in my hockey pool.

Those With Ears, Let Them Hear!

February 1, 2007

Ok, I need some help from all of you. I just booked my Weird Al concert tickets for March. And this memo was on the page:

MY TICKETEK SPECIAL OFFER

    Enmore Theatre, Sydney

As a special offer, My Ticketek members who book tickets to the Monday 12 March performance of Weird Al Yankovic before Friday 9 February will go into the draw to win a meet-and-greet with the man himself, plus a signed CD and photo!

How cool would that be? Very. So from this day to that, I need you to petition the gods of genius rock, clever parody, and freakin cool to land me this prize. If I win this draw, I will put the autographed cd up as a prize for one of you to win… through some contest… which hinges on who has more sway with the aforementioned gods. Thank you for your help in this desperate hour. That is all.

Sammy

Sammy

Sammy, the oldest dog in the world (or so it seemed) passed away last night. 10-4 good buddy!
